Please join us on Monday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. for our annual celebration of American Indian heritage, led by Tomas Shash, also known as Eaglebear. Each year, Tomas and members of his family present songs, stories and dances of their Xicano and Apache cultures. This special event is great fun for the entire family. Thanks to the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library for sponsoring Eaglebear's visit.
Our two Circle Times on Tuesday, Oct. 28, will be focused on Halloween. Bring your child (or have their caregiver bring them) in their Halloween costumes! (Adults also are welcome to wear Halloween costumes). We'll read a Halloween book and do some Halloween rhymes. We have two Circle Times: one from 10-10:30 a.m., and the second from 11-11:30 a.m. No need to register -- just come!
Don't forget! On Monday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m., popular local storyteller Candace Wolf will make her annual appearance at the library with a program titled “Good Old Halloween Storytelling . One important note: we are asking parents to refrain from bringing very young children; this is an event specifically geared to kids ages 5 and up. Please keep younger siblings at home so we can make this a spookily fun event for kids ages 5 and up! Please register by going to www.takomapark.info/library/registration.html or calling 301-891-7259.
At the Library today, we had planned to do a Bilingual Circle Time in Spanish and English. But our Spanish-speaking staffer stayed home ill, so we switched to a French and English Bilingual Circle Time since French is my second language. We all had fun, and may try to do it again, if there is interest! Meanwhile, we've re-scheduled the Spanish and English Bilingual Circle Time for next Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10:30-11 a.m. No need to register -- just come. If you're interested in some of the French nursery rhymes we tried today, read on.
Here are a few nursery rhymes in French to try. The Mama Lisa website (www.mamalisa.com/world/) is a great place to find nursery rhymes in other languages.
One note: I reworked the last line of Ouvre-les, Ferme-les to make it work better. It's not great French, but it works perfectly for the rhyme!
