Kids, don't buy gifts for the special people in your lives this holiday season -- give them something hand-made! We're offering two chances to make holiday gifts, and we'll make different gifts at each program. Our first program, on Friday, Dec. 19 from 4-5 p.m., is geared for kids ages 5 and up. No registration required. Our second program will take place Monday, Dec. 22, from 6-8 p.m., and is aimed at families with children of all ages. Parental supervision is required for the littlest ones. Registration required for the Monday program -- please go to www.takomapark.info/library/registration.html or call us at 301-891-7259.
Come one, come all to our 18th annual Winter Solstice celebration on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. Bill Jenkins, a local world music educator, will start us off, giving us a chance to drum and bring back the energy of the earth. Then the Foggy Bottom Morris Men will perform some of their amazing dances. This is a great program for all ages. No need to register -- just come!
Please join us on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m. for a unique program based on this year's Newbery Medal-winning book, Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! . Middle school students will perform monologues or duologues they have written based on the book, which looks at life in a medieval village. The poems were developed over the course of a three-session workshop led by local poets Elizabeth Rees and Rosanne Singer. At the Dec. 17 performance, medieval music will be provided by the students of local musician/music teacher Wendy Lanxner, and refreshments will be provided. This program is a great -- and different -- way to celebrate the holidays and is perfect for children ages 5 up. Please register so we can have enough refreshments for all. Thanks to the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library for sponsoring the workshop and the performance.
We're hosting a Holiday Sing-a-Long in the Library's Children's Room on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10:30-11 a.m. Local musician/music teacher Wendy Lanxner will lead some of her flute and guitar students in songs like Deck the Halls , Oh Hanukkah , Kwanzaa Song and, of course, Jingle Bells . No registration required -- just bring your voice and good cheer!
