Circle Time Rhymes

Each week, we do a combination of traditional and new rhymes, songs and fingerplays at our weekly Circle Time programs (Tuesdays at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.). Recently, parents asked if we could post some of the traditional rhymes on the Children's Room blog so they could learn them at home. Read on to find some Circle Time favorites; all are easy to learn and fun to do with your child. And remember, our half-hour Circle Times don't require registration and are appropriate for children ages birth through age 5 and their grown-ups. Choose either the 10 a.m. Circle Time or the 11 a.m. Circle Time.

Some favorite Circle Time rhymes:

__ Who Has a Nose?

Who has a nose? Who has a nose?
Who has toes? Who has toes?
Who has lots of fingers? (2x)
Now we know! Now we know! (Clap)
Who can wiggle his nose? (2X)
Who can wiggle his toes? (2X)
Who can wiggle his fingers? (2X)
Now we know! Now we know! (Clap)
Who can touch the ceiling? (2X)
Who can stand on tippy toes? (2X)
Who can turn around? (2X)
Now we know! Now we know! (Clap)
Who can bend down low? (2X)
Who can touch the ground? (2X)
Who can turn around? (2X)
Now we know! Now we know! (Clap)

__ Here We Go, Up, Up, Up

Here we go, up, up, up (2-3X)
Here we go, down, down, down (2-3X)
Here we go backwards and forwards
And backwards and forwards
And around and around.
Repeat above, then say:
I touch my head
I touch my toes
I touch my ears
I touch my nose
I stretch up high
I bend down low
I turn around, and
Down I go!

__ Roll Sugar Baby

Roll sugar baby (roll arms)
Roll sugar baby (roll arms)
Clap, clap, clap.
(Repeat several times, with increasing vigor)

__ Five Little Monkeys

(Start with arms and hands going in and out and a sh-sh sound)
Five little monkeys
Sitting in a tree
Teasing Mr. Alligator (fingers in ears, waggle fingers)
“You can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr. Alligator (low voice, palms together, make a wavy motion)
Grumpy as can be
And – SNAP! (palms together with a clap)
(Wiggle fingers to mimic other monkeys running away)
