Winter Rhymes and Songs

Here are some great rhymes and songs for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. By singing these songs and doing these rhymes, parents and caregivers are teaching important pre-reading skills such as hearing rhyming words and recognizing how language breaks down into separate words. Most of all, singing these songs and rhymes together is fun!

Winter Songs and Rhymes

“The Mitten Song”
“Thumbs in the thumbs place,
Fingers all together.”
This is the song we sing
In mitten weather.
When it is cold, it doesn’t matter whether
Mittens are wool, or made of finest leather.
This is the song we sing in mitten weather:
“Thumbs in the thumb place,
Fingers all together!”
*******
“Snowflakes” (to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle”)

Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Dance around.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Touch the ground.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
In the air.
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Everywhere!
Snowflakes, snowflakes,
Dance around.
Snowflakes, snowflakes
Touch the ground.

“Sliding” (To the tune of “Row, row, row, your boat”)

Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch
Crunch,
Up the hill we go.
Sliding, sliding, sliding, sliding,
Down the hill we go!
**************

“Five Little Snowpeople”

Five little snowpeople
All in a row.
Each with a hat, and silly
Little bow.
Five little snowpeople
All dressed for a show.
Now they are ready
But where will they go?
Up comes the sun
And it stayed all day,
And all of those snowpeople
Melted right away.

****************
“”I’m a Great Big Snowman” (to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”

I’m a great big snowman
Round and fat.
Here is my scarf and
Here is my hat.
But when the sun gets
warmer,
I get flat, because I melt
Into a puddle,
Just like that!

Library Closing Early

The Library will be closing at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 13, due to weather conditions. If the federal government is closed tomorrow, Wed. Feb. 14, the Library also will be closed. That means the "Two-sies" program for tomorrow would be canceled. If the Library is open tomorrow, we will have the "Two-sies" program.
