During the week of Sept. 26- Oct. 4, we'll be celebrating Banned Books Week at our library. In the Children's Room, we've got a display of children's books that people have tried to ban -- NOT at our library, but at other libraries around the nation. Come check out these great books -- they are definitely worth reading! If you want to learn more about Banned Books Week, check out the blog post on our Books blog, which can be found here: http://www.takomapark.info/library/books/index.html
We're having a special Play Day Circle Time on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Pat Rumbaugh, a Takoma Park resident and award-winning high school tennis coach, will read her children's book about play and lead us all in some fun movement exercises. This special Circle Time is designed as a reminder for everyone to come to Takoma Park's first-ever Play Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11-1 at Heffner Park. Families can enjoy the Recreation Department's special Touch-A-Truck event right around the corner, beginning at 10 a.m., then head for the Heffner Center to continue the fun.
At the Play Day, there will be a wide variety of games, Turkish dance, a dress-up parade, and more. Senator Jamie Raskin will be there to lead a game of Simon Says.Takoma Park has been designated a playful city by Kaboom, an organization that promotes play, ommunity-building, and the building of better play spaces. If lots of folks participate in our Play Day, Takoma Park will be eligible for a grant which we could use to build a new playground or improve an old one. So please join us, have fun with the kids, and if you care to, share your thoughts or ideas about play in our community.
