Looking for a unique summer reading program? We've got it here at the Takoma Park Maryland Library! Our Summer Quest program is created each year by Dave Burbank, library assistant and artist extraordinaire. This year's program is built around the rainforest, and promises to be a true reading adventure.
To launch our latest Summer Quest, we've planned a special event on Monday evening, June 11, at 7:30 p.m. We'll talk about the Summer Quest program, hand out materials, and highlight some great new books you might want to read as you complete your journey through the rainforest. Please register by calling 301-891-7259.
Kids, Father's Day is coming up! Join us at the Library on Monday night, June 4, at 7 p.m. to make gifts for Dad, Grandad, or the other special man in your life. We'll also have materials to make a special "thank you" gift for your teacher. Please register by calling 301-891-7259 to ensure we have enough craft materials for everyone.
Craft materials will be provided, courtesy of the Friends of the Takoma Park Md. Library. Hope you can join us!
You're invited to our monthly Bedtime Story Hour at the library, on Monday May 21. From 7-7:15 p.m., we'll have stories suitable for the youngest readers. Then, from 7:15-8 p.m., we'll read stories for kids ages 5 up (younger children are welcome to stay if they are able to listen quietly).
Bring your teddy or other bedtime buddy, and feel free to come in p.j.s! Pillows and blanets also are welcome. Questions? Call 301-891-7259.
Saturday, May 19 at the Library 10 AM – noon
The same day as the book sale!
Please call 301.891.7259 to sign up.
Attention, all Circle Time regulars! Due to the crowds that we've been attracting recently, we've decided to offer Circle Time twice on Tuesdays. We have the first Circle Time at 10 a.m., and the second at 11 a.m. We will have to ask those who come to the 10 a.m. session to leave before 11 a.m. to make room.
This is an experiement; we're going to try it for a few weeks to see how it works. We welcome your feedback -- let us know how this is working for you and your child.
See you at Circle Time!
Just in time for the 400th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown, the Library is hosting author Karen Lange, who will talk about her new kids' book, 1607: A New Look At Jamestown, on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. Kids ages 8 and older would get the most out of the presentation; adults also are cordially invited.
Lange, a Takoma Park resident, works as a writer at National Geographic, which published her book. In the book, Lange highlights how the astonishing 1994 discovery of the 1607 James Fort has spurred historians to change some of their ideas about life in the Virginia settlement, including the relationship between the British and the Virginia Indian tribes. Come learn more about these discoveries! Call 301-891-7259 to sign up, or if you have any questions.
