Please join us TONIGHT, Monday, Dec. 21, at 7 p.m as we read together all of our finalists and then vote for our Caldecott Club Book of the Year !
We'll be reading some of the best-illustrated books published this year, using our ELMO document camera, projector and big screen so everyone can see all the wonderful details in each book. These books are our finalists -- the ones that have won at previous Caldecott Club sessions this year. We'll then vote on our favorite, just like the real Caldecott Committee will be doing in a couple of weeks.
The Caldecott Medal is given annually by the American Library Association to the best-illustrated book for children ages birth-14, and our Caldecott Club finalists include picture books, an illustrated non-fiction book, and even a graphic novel. As usual, lemonade and cookies will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library. All ages are welcome at tonight's program, which is a wonderful way to spend some time together reading great books!
Join us Saturday December 19 at 3 p.m. for our annual Holiday Sing-a-Long. Local musician/music teacher Wendy Lanxner and her young guitar students will provide the accompaniment as we sing songs of Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa and the winter season. All ages welcome! Lyrics provided, and no registration required. Just bring your voices and good cheer.
Please join us tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. to celebrate the Library's 80th birthday! We'll have cake, lemonade and ginger ale, and some special reading-related giveaways. We'll also have birthday cards for folks to fill out (and color, if you want) telling us your favorite thing about the Takoma Park Maryland Library. And, of course, we'll sing Happy Birthday!
After the party, please head to the Azalea Room in the Takoma Park Community Center for a public meeting on the most recent concept design of the proposed renovation and expansion of the Library. The meeting will be led by Greg Lukmire, principal architect of Lukmire Associates, who developed the concept design. Greg will explain the design and the process leading to it, and then take public comments and questions. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. If you can't make this meeting, there will be another public meeting on Jan. 7.
Winter Cards & Crafts is this Sunday from 2:00-3:00. Make a craft stick snowman, a scratch art snowman, an ice skate or bear cave craft, or come up with your idea using various wintery craft materials!
