Children's Book Week
We're closing in on the end of Children's Book Week 2013, but there's still time to participate in our Caldecott Medal contest. Just come to the library and vote for your favorite Caldecott Medal or Caldecott Honor book. To help jog your memory, we've got a list at the main desk of all of the Medal and Honor books from 1938 to the current day. On Monday, May 20 we'll pull out three winners, who will receive a Caldecott Medal or Caldecott Honor book. We'll also publish the results of the voting. It's our way of celebrating both the 75th birthday of the Caldecott Medal and Children's Book Week!
Children's Book Week also means the announcement of the winners of the Children's Choice Book Awards, the only awards the reflect the voices of young readers themselves. Here's a look of this year's winners:

Artist Charles Vess
Come tonight at 7 p.m. to meet artist Charles Vess, who has illustrated a "Bone" volume among many other books. Tonight, Vess will discuss his beautiful, full-color artwork for a new, critically-acclaimed children’s novel, "The Cats of Tanglewood Forest." Written by Charles de Lint, "The Cats of Tanglewood Forest" tells the story of a girl named Lillian who longs for magic things to happen in her life and then gets more than she bargained for when she is transformed into a cat.
At our program, Vess also will talk about other children’s books he has illustrated, including "Blueberry Girl," a picture book written by Neil Gaiman and "Rose," a "Bone" prequel written by Jeff Smith. Politics & Prose Bookstore will be selling Vess’ books at the program, but no purchase is required to attend this free event. Registration is encouraged but not required; to register, please go to: Program Registration - Takoma Park Maryland Library or call us at 301-891-7259.
