Kids in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade are welcome to join our newest book club -- the Junior Banned Books Club. Modeled after our award-winning Banned Books Club for teens, the Junior Banned Books Club will focus on children's books that some people have attempted to ban from library shelves (not ours!). Our first meeting will be Tuesday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. and we'll be discussing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K.Rowling. Copies of the book are available for check-out at the library's main desk, courtesy of the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library. Registration is required for the Junior Banned Books Club; to register go to Event registration - Takoma Park Maryland Library or call us at 301-891-7259.
Mark your calendars: the kick-off for our 2010 Summer Quest is the first day of summer -- June 21! We're offering a program at 7:30 p.m. on June 21 to introduce this year's story, created, as usual, by library assistant and artist extraordinaire Dave Burbank. At the end of the program, we'll begin registering kids for Summer Quest. Can't make it to the program? Don't worry, you can always sign up later. And this year we have a new feature -- online registration! More information about that will be coming shortly, so stayed tuned.
Bienvenue! Come join Madame Marie as she leads us in rhymes and songs in French this Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 in our twice-monthly Petites Chansons program. You don't have to know any French to enjoy this program, which is perfect for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their parents.
Come in and check out some of our great picture books about mothers and children. We've got a display of the books n top of the first fiction section as you walk into the Children's Room. We've also put up some kids' cookbooks and craft books to inspire kids to make something special for their mom on Mother's Day.
