Caldecott Birthday Club

The Caldecott Medal -- given annually by the American Library Association to the best-illustrated children's book -- is now 75 years old and we're celebrating! Come join us each month for the Caldecott Birthday Club, where we'll read Caldecott Medal and Caldecott Honor books from different decades on the big screen, using our special ELMO document camera. Our first meeting is Monday, September 24 at 7 p.m. We'll be reading favorites from the first years of the Caldecott Medal, including "Madeline", "Make Way for Ducklings", "Stone Soup" and more! No registration is necessary for this hour-long program, and all are welcome -- kids and grown-ups. Reading award-winning picture books is a perfect way to unwind after a long day for people of any age!

Talking IN Books!

Two librarians -- public librarian Elizabeth Bird and school librarian Travis Jonker -- have come up with a unique way to have a conversation -- by holding up titles of picture books at each other. They created a video of their conversation and now Candlewick Press is using it to launch their year-long celebration called We Believe in Picture Books . Check out the librarians' hilarious book "conversation" Elizabeth Bird and Travis Jonker discuss picture books on Vimeo. Keep tabs on the Candlewick Press site for more videos about picture books -- one video a day for an entire year!
