At the Library today, we had planned to do a Bilingual Circle Time in Spanish and English. But our Spanish-speaking staffer stayed home ill, so we switched to a French and English Bilingual Circle Time since French is my second language. We all had fun, and may try to do it again, if there is interest! Meanwhile, we've re-scheduled the Spanish and English Bilingual Circle Time for next Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10:30-11 a.m. No need to register -- just come. If you're interested in some of the French nursery rhymes we tried today, read on.
Here are a few nursery rhymes in French to try. The Mama Lisa website (www.mamalisa.com/world/) is a great place to find nursery rhymes in other languages.
One note: I reworked the last line of Ouvre-les, Ferme-les to make it work better. It's not great French, but it works perfectly for the rhyme!
Ouvre-les, ferme-les
(Open Shut Them)
Ouvre-les, ferme-les
Ourvre-les, ferme-les
Donne un petit coup, coup, coup.
Ouvre-les, ferme-les
Ouvre-les, ferme-les
Pose-les sur tes genous, noux, noux
Glisse-les, glisse-les
Glisse-les, glisse-les
Jusqu’a ton menton, ton, ton.
Ourvre grand ta petite bouche
Main ne pas rentrer — NON!
Frere Jacques
(Are You Sleeping)
Frere Jacque, Frere Jacques
Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous?
Sonnez les matins! Sonnez les matins!
Din, din don. Din, din, don.

L'on y danse tous en rond.
