You are going to be voting on a lot more than the presidential race.

Please check out rumor control.

Yes, you can wear your campaign t-shirt or buttons while you vote, just don't hang around afterwards looking decorative. No, you can't take pictures. And turn off your cell phone (just as you should when you enter the library).

November 08

We will be closed:
November 11 - Veterans Day, originally Armistice Day
November 27 - Thanksgiving, 4th Thursday in November
November 28 - Day after Thanksgiving

We will be open on November 4th, election day. Montgomery County schools will be closed because so many of them serve as polling places. Yours? (check your registration and polling location )

November is also American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. Montgomery County will host a special celebration November 8, from 10 AM to 5 PM, in the Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe Street, Rockville. Crafts, lectures, native food.

We will have our own celebration on the evening of November 3rd, when Eaglebear returns.

Halloween 08

Saturday October 25th, 3 PM, Bank of America parking lot, 6950 Carroll Avenue.
Doggy Costume Contest. Lots of categories. Dogs must be leashed and under control. Co-sponsored by Big Bad Wolf.

Saturday October 25th, 5 PM, corner of Laurel and Carroll Avenues (near the clock).
Costume Contest (for people). Separate categories by age, starting with 2 and under.

Saturday October 25th, approximately 5:45 PM, from the clock along Carroll to fire house, left onto Philadelphia Avenue, ending at Piney Branch School.
Parade.

Saturday October 25th, immediately following the parade, Piney Branch multipurpose room.
Halloween Bash. Dance to the music of RTT's, a band for all ages. Sponsored by the Takoma Park Lion's Club.

Monday October 27th, 7:30 PM, in the library.
Old Fashioned Scary Halloween Stories starring famed, local story-teller Candace Wolf

Saturday November 1st, 4-8 PM, Presbyterian Church gym, Tulip Avenue near Maple.
All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Supper Boy Scout Troop 33 (some history)

And don't forget, also on November 1st, Book Sale at the Library. Starts at 10 AM out on the lawn.

Play, Poems and Stories

Reminder - great programs coming up, bunched together.

Saturday the 18th - Celebrate National Wildlife Rufuge Week. Games and activities for the whole family.

Monday the 20th - View and discuss the new PBS program "Where do children play?" Experts on hand. This program is for adults, not children.

Tuesday the 21st - How to select a college.

Wednesday the 22nd - Autumn poetry making for kids. Led by local poets.

Take a breath. Then return the following Monday for Scary Stories, told by the remarkable storyteller, Candace Wolf.

Renovating?

Not us. We are open as usual and were last renovated in the early 90s.

The library now closed is the Takoma Neighborhood Library (a DC Public Library branch) which is located at 5th and Cedar Streets NW, DC

The building is a lovely 1911 Carnegie library - one of 4 that were built in DC.
