Chipmunks

Reference Question: what does a chipmunk sound like?
Listen here. Sounds sort of like a repeated chip, but the name wasn't coined by the English. It is probably derived from an American Indian word atchitamon/ajidamoo. Meaning? Depends upon the dictionary you consult.

At this time of year it is more likely zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Chipmunks hibernate.

Family Sciuridae; genus Tamias; many species.

Whistle Stops

The inaugural train arrives today.

Curious about Lincoln's arrival in Washington? The historical markers database has text for some of the many markers that still commemorate that event and the speeches that were delivered en route. This is an interesting database - explore and contribute.

Do you know about this marker? Just on the other side of the railroad tracks from from Takoma Park? Give a thought today to William Chaplin, Garland White, and Allen.
