For many events we ask people to sign-up in advance, for any or all of the following reasons.
For all these reasons, please register at least a few days early if you can. (Though we understand that there are times when you just don't know until the last minute.) If the program is one with a limited number of slots, and you later need to cancel, call. The first person on the waiting list will automatically be moved up.
Upcoming Programs (this list also includes events which do not require prior registration).
Our phone: 301.891.7259
Our annual college-bound program series begins Tuesday, September 28th, with Dr. Lori Potts-Dupre. For high school students and their families.
Space is limited, so registration is required. You can sign up now.
This fall we will repeat the popular résumé sessions with Gabe Heilig, Takoma Park resident, author of ARCO civil service job guides, and authority on job search techniques.
Last spring the registration lists, even the waiting lists, were full. Please register now.

9th Annual Rumors Golf tournament
Monday September 27th
RedGate Golf Course, Rockville
In memory of Mike Morrissey, for whom our Children's Room is named.
The proceeds benefit our library, and the tournament has been the major
source of funding for our children's programs, and equipment. The last
eight tournaments have raised over $40,000 for us. The Summer Quest
readers, Comics Jam participants, the children who come to story times in
Spanish or French, and even the computer room users have benefited from the
generosity of Mike's friends.
You don't need to play golf well, or even to have ever played previously. A
team of incredibly inexperienced library staff members plays, and last year
didn't even come in last! (because they forgot to sign their score card).
If you don't want to play golf, at least come to the party afterward, from
4-7 PM at Rumors. 100% of the funds from the raffles and auction at the
party also goes to the library. Or you can sponsor a hole, tee or green.
This is all great fun and means everything to us. Please get a foursome of
library supporters together and sign up now!
As usual on 3-day weekends, the computer rooms will close completely, including Saturday. The library will be closed on Monday, but open Saturday.
Love parades? Try Kensington on Labor Day in the morning or Gaithersburg in the afternoon. Or both.
Other free activities:
Labor Day Concert, National Symphony Orchestra, West Lawn of the U. S. Capitol, 8 PM Sunday.
Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage Festival, all weekend, Saturday-Monday, 2-10 PM.
The problem is ... the Takoma Metro station will be closed. Normally you could just take the train down to Union Station for the concert, and Foggy Bottom for the Kennedy Center, but this weekend you will have to figure out something else. You can take a shuttle bus from the Takoma station to Fort Totten and pick up the red/yellow/green lines there, or take the K6 down New Hampshire to Fort Totten to get the trains.
