Alice Author Speaks

Phyllis Reynolds Naylor is concluding her long-running Alice series, set in Takoma Park and Silver Spring. The books are hugely popular with young readers and among the most challenged in the nation because of Naylor's willingness to discuss tough issues like sexual maturing, bullying and racism. The final book, Now I'll Tell You Everything, begins when Alice is 18 and heading off to college, and ends when she is 60 and a grandmother. The book will be released on Tuesday October 15, the same day Naylor launches a national tour that begins with her appearance at the Takoma Park Community Center Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Politics & Prose bookstore will be selling copies of Naylor's new book and her other Alice novels at the October 15 event, but the program is free and open to the public. Meanwhile, Naylor spoke with Publishers Weekly recently about her decision to end the series:
