Our monthly Caldecott Club -- our family book club -- will take place Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m. Each month, we gather to read 4-5 newly-published picture books. We then discuss the books and vote on our favorite of the evening. Decisions are based on a kid-friendly version of the criteria used to determine the winner of the Caldecott Medal, given each year by the American Library Association to the best-illustrated book of the year for kids ages 0-14.
This month, we're going to take a look at simple and entertaining non-fiction books, published in picture book style. It promises to be a fun evening, and it's also helpful feedback for children's librarian Karen MacPherson, who is one of 15 members of the 2016 Caldecott Committee. So come enjoy some great books, as well as cookies and lemonade. No registration required and all ages are welcome.
