Come celebrate Bastille Day on Thursday, July 14 at 7 p.m. with a special -- and free! --performance of The Forced Marriage, a comic play by the great French playwright Moliere. The 45-minute performance, given by the Traveling Players Ensemble, will take place in the Takoma Park Community Center (7500 Maple Ave. in Takoma Park, Md.).The performance, which is best for ages 6 up, is sponsored by the Takoma Park Maryland Library and the Friends of the Library. The Traveling Players Ensemble, which consists of middle school students, has been selected as a Summer School in the Arts by the National Endowment for the Arts -- one of 25 in the nation. This summer, they are performing The Forced Marriage, which details what happens when a young man named Sganarelle gets cold feet about his engagement to the lovely Dorimene. As a result, Sganarelle must contend with loony philosphers, bad advice from friends and the young lady's unnervingly polite family. Can Sganarelle weasel out of tying the knot -- of is it already too late? The young actors inspire plenty of laughs as they draw out the humor inherent in Moliere's play.
Registration is encouraged, but not required. If you want to register, please go to: Program Registration - Takoma Park Maryland Library or call us at 301-891-7259.
