Dick King-Smith, best-known for his children's novel titled Babe, has died. He was 88.
In addition to Babe, we have 39 other great children's books by King-Smith. Some of my favorites are Dick King-Smith's Animal Friends: Thirty-One True Life Stories, the Sophie series about a girl determined to become a farmer when she grows up, Mr. Potter's Pet, Jenius the Amazing Guinea Pig and George Speaks. I'm also very fond of All Pigs Are Beautiful, which has one of my all-time favorite lines: People come in all shapes and sizes, but all pigs are beautiful. Most of our King-Smith books can be found in the Children's Room fiction collection under his last name (J FIC KING), but his non-fiction books are found in our kids' non-fiction collection: for example, All Pigs Are Beautiful is J636.4 KING (a separate book and audio CD set can be found at O J CD-BOOK 3055), while Dick King-Smith's Animal Friends can be found at J 591 KING. Just ask us for help! King-Smith's books are perfect for the young animal lover in your life.
