Bilingual play to be presented in celebration of Children's Day / Book Day
Teatro La Bolsa will present Compañeras de viaje: Dancing through Latin America in celebration of El día de los niños / El día de los libros on Saturday, April 30, 2022.
This free event will be held outdoors on the library front lawn. The presentation will start at 1:30 PM. In case of rain, the event will take place in the auditorium.
In this bilingual (English-Spanish) play, Arle and Quines travel through Latin America discovering folk dances in five countries. Attending families will be able to dance and play with the characters! It is recommended to bring a blanket to sit on, a stuffed animal, and a scarf, although there will be extra materials for those who need them.
Compañeras de viaje promotes the learning and enjoyment of Latin American cultures. To foster pride in being bilingual, the public is also invited to stop by the library and enjoy a book in English and/or Spanish.
This program is sponsored partially by a grant from REFORMA, an American Library Association affiliate.

April is Poetry Month. The Takoma Park Library's tradition of Favorite Poem Night, suspended since 2019 because of Covid, is back this year!
We will be gathering again, this time in the Community Center Auditorium (for social distancing purposes), on Tuesday, April 26, at 7pm--7500 Maple Avenue, Takoma Park. If you would like to read a favorite poem, we ask that you bring something published that is not your own work, and submit the title of the poem, the author, your name and if you like, a description of your occupation, to jillr@takomaparkmd.gov, by April 24. This information will appear on a program we will distribute that night. Also include your phone number and email address in case we need to reach you.
In order to replicate the warmth and intimacy of the recent years of Favorite Poem Night where we gathered in a large circle in the Children's Room, we will circle chairs around the auditorium platform rather than have readers speaking from a lectern. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged; we will have participants from all walks of life, who may have multiple health challenges.
We have a new, full schedule of programs for May and June - both online and in-person.
These are in addition to our regulars Canta Juego: Spanish Circle Time, Scribbler's Cabal: Sketch Club, Comics Jam, and Kids' Art.
