Come to a special Black History program tonight about an inspiring and overlooked African-American hero. Author Gigi Amateau will talk about her book,Come August, Come Freedom, which combines fact and fiction to tell the true story of a literate slave named Gabriel who attempted to incite a rebellion among his fellow slaves in Richmond, Va. in 1800. The rebellion failed, due to a massive storm and the betrayal of friends, but Amateau's book offers a riveting look at a true freedom fighter. Politics & Prose Bookstore will sell copies of Amateau's book at tonight's event, but absolutely no purchase is necessary. Our event is free and open to all, although the book is aimed at ages 12 up.
