Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of Joseph Allan Felix, 43, of District Heights, Maryland.
An investigation led Takoma Park officials to the Popeye’s located on New Hampshire Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland, in reference to a credit card theft. The victim had purchased some food at that location on July 9, 2008, however, his credit card was never returned to him. Further investigation revealed that Felix used the victim’s credit card to purchase various items in numerous stores.
Felix was arrested and charged with theft over $500, theft of a credit card, obtaining property exceeding $500 by using a stolen credit card, obtaining property exceeding $500 by false representation, unauthorized use of signature and identity fraud. He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit for an appearance before a District Court Commissioner. The bond information for Felix is unknown at this time.

A domestic assault occurred in the 700 block of Ethan Allen Avenue, Sunday, August 17 between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Victim’s husband became argumentative and physically assaulted her causing serious injury. An adult male was arrested.

Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of Steven Maurice Rhinehart, 49, of Hyattsville, Maryland. Rhinehart was charged with two counts each of theft over $500, motor vehicle theft, unauthorized removal and rogue and vagabond.
Through the course of an investigation for two auto thefts from the 6500 block of Kansas Lane that occurred on July 18, Rhinehart, a City of Takoma Park Code Enforcement employee, was developed as a suspect. A subsequent investigation confirmed Rhinehart’s involvement in the above criminal offenses. Property was seized from Rhinehart during the search of his person and property through search warrants. Rhinehart was arrested on August 7 at approximately 3:40 p.m. at his Hyattsville residence and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit for an appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Rhinehart was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond. Rhinehart has since resigned from the City of Takoma Park.

The Takoma Park Police Department has been receiving calls for suspicious persons who are claiming to be alarm company salespersons. Our investigation has revealed that two alarm companies have been soliciting in the City without a permit. We have located those salespersons and advised them to stop soliciting without a permit. Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrests of Talmadge Merritt, 48, of Washington, D.C. and Forann Minge, 50, of Takoma Park, Maryland. Merritt was charged with possession with the intent to distribute Heroin and possession of Heroin; Minge was charged with possession of Heroin.
On August 4, 2008, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers in the Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) were conducting a burglary abatement detail and surveillance operation when they observed two subjects walking around the area on foot in a suspicious manner. A short time later, both subjects had separated and one subject returned in a 1996 Ford Mustang. Both subjects were later observed in the vehicle and a traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle. Probable cause was developed for a search which led to the recovery of quantities of Heroin both in the vehicle and on one of the subjects, as well as $4,300 in U.S. currency. The quantity of Heroin indicated an intent to distribute. Both subjects were transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit for an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

The Maryland International Corridor CSAFE, in collaboration with various organizations and agencies, will host "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" in the Takoma-Langley Crossroads on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 8011 New Hampshire Avenue (in the parking lot adjacent to the McDonald’s and former Toys R’ Us building).
Representatives from Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, the City of Takoma Park, non-profits and local businesses will be in attendance the evening of the event.
National Night Out activities will include music, raffles, games, face painting, moon bounce, and other children’s activities, a candlelight vigil (8:30 pm) and ice cream.
