On March 17 at 5:18 pm in the 1300 block of Holton Lane, a commercial strongarmed robbery was attempted. A subject entered the business, jumped over a counter and entered an enclosed employee area through a door that had been left unlocked. The subject demanded money from the lone employee who immediately ran to an office area in the back of the store without giving the subject anything. The subject fled on foot. The victim was not injured. The subject was described as a black male, 16-18 years old, 5'10", 145 lbs, thin build, dark eyes, dark complexion, black hair, wearing a black jacket with a hood, black jeans and boots and sunglasses. 07-3665

Arrests:

On March 17 at 4:05 pm in the 1100 block of University Blvd., a juvenile male was arrested and charged with theft under $500 (shoplifting) 07-3662

On March 20 at 1:01 pm in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue, an adult male was arrested on an open Montgomery County warrant for a violation of a court order (failure to pay court fines and costs) 07-3840

On March 12 at 11:43 pm in the 1000 block of University Blvd., an assault occurred. An intoxicated adult male became involved in a verbal argument with a relative, then attacked him with a metal pipe. The victim, also an adult male, was treated at a hospital for minor injures. Officers are seeking an arrest warrant for the subject. 07-3427

Between March 12 at 8:00 pm and March 13 at 8:30 am in the 6400 block of 4th Avenue, an auto theft occurred. A 1996 Acura Integra was stolen by unknown means. 07-3434

Between March 12 at 6:30 pm and March 13 at 2:45 pm in the 7300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, a 1994 Toyota Corolla was stolen by unknown means. 07-3446

Arrests:

On March 9 at 9:33 in the 8600 block of Flower Avenue, an adult male was arrested on an open Montgomery County warrant for a 2nd degree assault. 07-3258

On March 10 at 9:25 pm in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while suspended and disorderly conduct. 07-3282

On March 13 at 12:45 pm in the 1100 block of University Blvd., an adult male was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and trespassing. 07-3445

On March 14 at 10:55 am in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue, an adult female was arrested and charged with 2nd degree assault and destruction of property. 07-3486

On March 14 at 1:10 pm in the 1300 block of University Blvd., an adult male was arrested and charged with trespassing. 07-3496

On March 14 at 10:27 am in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue, an adult male was arrested on an open Montgomery County warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while suspended. 07-3487

On March 14 at 6:24 pm in the 8600 block of Flower Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with possession of CDS. 07-3517

Takoma Park Street Robberies


At approximately 8:56 PM, police officials were summoned to the report of an attempt armed robbery at 7667 Maple Ave, Takoma Park. According to the first victim, he was approached by a black male in his late 20's to early 30's, 5'08, thin build, wearing a black jacket, black hat, black ski mask and armed with a dark colored hand gun. The suspect displayed the handgun and attempted to rob the victim who successfully fled the area. The second victim who was entering the building and heard the struggle from the 1st attempt robbery, was confronted by the same suspect who pointed the weapon at him and ordered him to enter the building, this victim also successfully fled the immediate area and contacted the police.

In an unrelated incident, at approximately 9:12pm, police officials were summoned to the report of a strong-arm robbery which occurred in the 7500 block of Carroll Ave, Takoma Park. According to the victim, she was approached from behind by a heavy set black male with thick prescription glasses, wearing dark clothing. The suspect had exited from the passenger side of a light blue older model 4 door vehicle which was being operated by a unknown suspect. The suspect demanded the victims property, obtained her cellular phone and returned to the vehicle which fled northbound Old Carroll Ave to Sligo Creek Parkway.

Investigators do not believe the first incident is related to the 2nd incident.

Investigators release surveillance images of robbery suspects


Takoma Park Investigators have released video images of the suspects responsible for the March 02, 2007, 2:51 pm commercial armed robbery at The Takoma Postal Business Center, 7304 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park. Investigators are asking for assistance with the identification of these individuals. Anyone with knowledge of these suspects, is asked to contact Detective Richard Cannatella at 301-891-7145 or call the Emergency Communications Dispatcher at 301-270-1100. A copy of the video footage in MPEG and JPEG format is available by request.

Takoma Park Commercial Armed Robbery


Takoma Park Police responded to a commercial armed robbery which had just occurred. At approximately 2:51PM, suspects robbed The Takoma Postal Business Center , 7304 Carroll Ave, Takoma Park. The suspects were described as: Suspect #1, a black male, mid 20's , 5'10"-6'00 wearing a dark hooded shirt, blue knit cap and large frame sunglasses, armed with a silver or chrome silver large frame revolver. Suspect#2, a black male, mid 20's, thin build, wearing a dark hooded shirt with a multi print metallic design on the front and large frame sunglasses. No injuries were reported. The Takoma Park K-9 unit initiated a track for the suspects which ended in a nearby residential street. Takoma Park Detectives are investigating the possibility that these suspects are also linked to similar commercial armed robberies which have occurred in Takoma Park and neighboring jurisdictions. Detectives recovered the establishments video surveillance tape showing the suspects responsible for this incident. The video is being processed by forensic technicians at this time. Footage will be available to the media as soon as it is available.

On February 21 at 4:00 pm (reported to police on February 24) in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue, a commercial armed robbery occurred. A subject entered the business, threatened the manager, an adult female with a knife and demanded money. After the victim gave him cash she had in her pocket, the subject ordered her to lay on the ground then fled. The victim was not injured. The subject was described as a black male, 5'11" tall, 150 lbs, thin build, wearing black hat, pants, shirt and ski mask. 07-2545

Between February 23 at 10:00 pm and February 24 at 7:00 am in the 1200 block of Myrtle Avenue, an auto theft occurred. It is unknown how the 1994 Acura Integra was stolen. 07-2525

On February 27, between 10:45 am and 9:00 pm in the 7600 block of Flower Avenue, a burglary occurred. A dorm room was entered through an unlocked door. Property was taken. 07-2760

Arrests:

On February 27 at 10:17 am in the 1300 block of University Blvd., an adult male was arrested on an open warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving while suspended. 07-2673

On February 28 at 11:43 pm in the 1300 block of University Blvd., an adult male was arrested and charged with possession of CDS, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and 2nd degree assault (on a police officer). 07-2797

On March 1 at 10:34 am in the 600 block of Houston Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with wearing and carrying a handgun and possession of a handgun by a prohibited person after police responded to calls for shots fired. Police are continuing the investigation to determine the identity of a second subject who was described as a black male, 25-30 years old, with long black dredlocks and a full beard, wearing a hat with red, yellow, black and green colors. The subject was last seen operating an older model tan or gray colored, four door, possibly Ford Crown Victoria or Chevrolet Caprice. The vehicle's right side passenger window may have been shot out and the vehicle may have bullet holes on the right side. No one was injured in the shooting. 07-2812
