Takoma Park Police release Identity of the November 29, Homicide.


After notification of the next of kin, The Takoma Park Police Department has identified the victim of last nights assault as: Terhas Araia, a 29 year old female resident of Takoma Park.

Preliminary leads have revealed that the victim may have had a previous association with her attacker.

Initial reports indicated that the victim may have suffered a gunshot wound however, preliminary autopsy findings have revealed that the victim suffered blunt force trauma to her upper body resulting in death.

Due to the complexity of the investigation, no additional information is available at this time.

Investigators have found no connection with this crime to any other related events in or around Takoma Park.

The Takoma Park Police continues to diligently pursue this investigation. New developments will be provided as they become available for public dissemination.

A news conference will be conducted at the main entrance to the Takoma Park Municipal Building, 7500 Maple Ave, Takoma Park at 4:00pm.

Takoma Park Woman Shot

Takoma Park Police are investigating the report of a shooting which was reported at 1131pm on November 29, 2006 in the 7500 Blk of Maple Avenue, during which a female resident was killed.

Officers were initially dispatched to the report of a stabbing in progress in the 7500 Block of Maple Ave, Takoma Park, Maryland. The first responding officer was on-scene within seconds of the call and advised of a female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased from her injuries. Members of The Takoma Park Police, Criminal Investigations Division are on scene and actively investigating this incident.

The cause and manner of death is pending a medical examiner’s report.

No further information regarding this incident is available at this time.

Between November 19, unknown time and November 20 at 5:04 am in the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, a commercial burglary occurred. The lock of the front door was pried off in order to gain entry. Cash and property were taken. Video from a surveillance camera showed two black males inside the gas station and two cars, a black Ford Explorer and a green Toyota or Honda four door waiting outside. 06-14658

On November 20 at 4:52 am in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, a commercial burglary occurred. Entry was gained through an unsecured rear door. Cash and property were taken. 06-14657

Arrests:

On November 17 at 11:35 pm in the 6500 block of 2nd Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with possession of CDS. 06-14553

On November 17 at 6:41 pm in the 500 block of Philadelphia Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and failure to control speed to avoid collision. 06-14543

On November 20 at 6:38 pm in the 7700 block of Maple Avenue, an adult female was arrested and charged with violation of a protective order. 06-14675

On November 20 at 1:02 am in the 7600 block of Maple Avenue, an adult male was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and several traffic related charges. 06-14654

On November 20 at 3:36 pm in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue, an adult male was arrested on a warrant from Washington County for theft over $500. 06-14671

On November 21 at 12:39 pm in the 7500 block of Maple Avenue an adult female was arrested on a Montgomery County warrant for theft. 99-6857
