Three Robberies in Varied Locations

Takoma Park Police have received reports of three robberies over five days in separate locations throughout the City.

Residents are encouraged to discuss safe walking tips with their teenagers, including information on the importance of early reporting and the emergency call boxes at 7205 and 7319 Cedar, 7051 Carroll (by the Gazebo) and 7201 Maple (by the church).

An armed robbery, which occurred Saturday evening, about 10:45 p.m. in the 7300 block of Cedar Avenue, was reported Sunday. The victim, a 16-year-old resident was walking north on Cedar when he noticed a man walking toward him, in a hooded jacket, which he assumed to be protection from the rain. As the two passed each other, at the intersection with Dogwood Avenue, the suspect displayed a weapon and demanded property. The youth complied and the suspect unsuccessfully searched the victim’s pockets for additional property.

The suspect fled down Dogwood in a waiting silver vehicle. The suspect is described as a black male, 5'10", of unknown age or other physical description. He was wearing dark-colored hooded jacket, pants, and scarf masking the lower half of his face.

The victim proceeded to a friend’s home on a nearby street where he spent the night. Arriving home the next day, he related the incident to his parents, who contacted the police Sunday afternoon.

Residents are encouraged to discuss safe walking tips with their teenagers, including information on the importance of early reporting and the emergency call boxes at 7205 and 7319 Cedar, 7051 Carroll (by the Gazebo) and 7201 Maple (by the church).

On April 28, at about 10 p.m., a strong arm robbery occurred in the unit block of Montgomery Avenue when a 19-year-old was approached by three youths, who took property and struck the man. A vehicle involved in this incident has been recovered. The suspects were described as three black males, 17-25 years old. Two were about 6' tall: one about 165 lbs, wearing a black skull cap and white athletic undershirt, the other about 210 lbs wearing a black t-shirt. The third was about 5'5", 150 lbs.

On May 2, a strong arm robbery occurred at about 1:45 a.m., in the 1000 block of Anne. The victim was attacked from behind by four black males, who assaulted him and took property. The 23-year-old man continued to his Flower Avenue residence and contacted police. No further description of the suspects was available.

In the latter two incidents, minor physical injuries were sustained.
