On Sunday, May 3, 2009, beginning at 8:00 a.m., the City of Takoma Park Safe Routes to School, partnering with the Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) at four area elementary schools, has organized the Takoma Park 5K Challenge. Events include a 5K, One Mile Fun Run and a 1/4 Mile Youth Run. Race proceeds benefit the students through PTA programs and activities. Road Closures on Sunday, May 3, 2009:
From 7:50 a.m.to 10:15 a.m., Maple Avenue will be closed to traffic and for parking from Philadelphia to Sligo Creek Parkway. The following cross streets will be barricaded: Lee, Grant, Lincoln, Ritchie, Sherman and Hilltop. Sligo Creek Parkway will be closed to vehicular traffic at 8:00 a.m., instead of the normal 9:00 a.m.
