Chief Ronald A. Ricucci from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrest of a 17 year old juvenile of Takoma Park, Maryland, for Theft over $500, Fleeing and Eluding Police, possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS), and traffic violations. On December 31, 2008, at approximately 11:44 p.m., during routine patrol, a Takoma Park police officer observed a vehicle without taillights at Roanoke and Houston Avenue. A record check indicated that the vehicle was listed as stolen through Montgomery County. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, however, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled from police, eventually crashing the vehicle into a retaining wall at the end of the 1000 block of Kennebec Avenue in Montgomery County. The driver bailed out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The driver was apprehended by Montgomery County Police at Prospect Street and Garland Avenue. The juvenile was transported to the police station and charged with the above referenced offenses. After consultation with the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS), the juvenile was released to the custody of his parents. Chief Ricucci would like to thank the Montgomery County police for their assistance in this apprehension and arrest.
