COMMUNITY ADVISORY - Burglary

On December 10, 2008, at approximately 4:49 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to Sherman Avenue for reports of a burglary. The victim advised that while she was at home sleeping, she awoke to find a male subject in her residence. The subject immediately fled through a basement sliding door after being encountered by the homeowner. There were three doors to the residence found open, with no damage to the locks or doors. It is not clear if the doors to the residence were secured or not. A K9 track was conducted with negative results. The subject is described as a black male, mid-30’s to early 40’s, medium build, wearing a blue sweatshirt and dark pants (black or gray). There were no injuries. Property was not taken.

Chief Ricucci and the Takoma Park Police Department cannot stress enough how imperative it is that you check and double-check your doors and windows to be sure they are secured. If you do encounter a burglar in your home, please attempt to secure yourself in a room where you have access to a phone and immediately contact police. Do not confront suspect(s) or attempt to fight and/or chase after suspect(s). If you have an alarm system, please use it.
