On December 5, 2008, two daytime burglaries occurred in the City of Takoma Park:
The first burglary occurred between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM in the 1000 block of Sligo Creek Parkway. The victim arrived home to discover her home had been burglarized. The method of entry was through a locked window by smashing out the glass. Property was taken. There is no suspect information at this time. It remains under investigation under case #08072207.
The second attempted burglary occurred between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM in the 6400 block of 5th Avenue. The victim arrived home to discover her rear sliding glass door had been smashed out. No property was taken. The suspects in this case are described as: (1) black male, approximately 21-22 years of age, 6’0, and 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black North Face jacket, blue jeans, and red and black baseball cap; and (2) black male, approximately 25-30 years of age with a beard. There is no clothing identification. He was the driver of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle is described as a red or maroon Dodge Stratus with after market rear trunk spoiler and exhaust. Witnesses describe one of the black male suspects knocking on the front door to the residence and then returning to the vehicle. Then later, the same suspect went to the rear of the residence and smashed out the rear sliding glass door and then fled towards Washington, D.C. in the above described suspect vehicle. It remains under investigation under case #08072212.
There were no injuries in either burglary.
Chief Ricucci has authorized that the Takoma Park Police increase their uniform and plainclothes patrol officers to the areas, specifically targeting these burglaries, around the clock.
