COMMUNITY INFORMATION - Flash Flood Watch for Montgomery County

The National Weather Service has issued a FLASH FLOOD WATCH for Montgomery County until this Afternoon. Severe Thunderstorms and extremely heavy rainfall expected as a front stalls across the area. A series of disturbances moving along this front is expected to initiate another round of severe weather this morning and afternoon.

Primary threats include damaging winds, large hail, and even a few tornadoes (Tornadoes can form from severe thunderstorms with little or no advanced warning. Know your safe room in your home, at school, and at work. If driving and a tornado is spotted, leave your car immediately and move to shelter or a low lying area. Do not use highway overpasses as shelters. Remain alert for the issuance of warnings). Torrential heavy rains in some cells may reach 1" per hour and may have the potential to cause severe flash flooding within the next 24 hours. Visibility may be quickly reduced.

Flash Floods kill more people every year than any other weather hazard. Do not drive through flooded areas. As little as 2 feet of water can sweep a vehicle off the road. Please stay alert for any warnings.
