There has been some question over the titling of information that is disseminated from the Takoma Park Police Department. So as to avoid any further confusion, beginning immediately the issuing of information will be titled as follows:
PRESS/NEWS RELEASE: Any information that is given to the media, i.e., PRESS RELEASE – Crime Down First Six Months OR PRESS RELEASE – Suspect in Armed Robbery Arrested.
COMMUNITY ADVISORY: This will be advising the community on the criminal activities in and around Takoma Park, i.e., COMMUNITY ADVISORY – Attempted Armed Robbery of a Citizen. These will be threats that have occurred earlier and the community is not in any imminent danger.
COMMUNITY ALERT: This will be alerting the community to a crime but to also be on the immediate lookout for the suspects who are being sought by police, i.e., COMMUNITY ALERT – Police Chase Ensues – Suspects at Large. These will be immediate threats to the public.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION: This will be informing the community of upcoming events, i.e., COMMUNITY INFORMATION- Takoma Park 2007 Street Festival to be Held.
In addition, when advisories or alerts are being given, it will provide information on whether any weapons were used, if known, in the commission of the crime.
