Events in Takoma Park's celebration of National Night Out Against Crime, Tuesday, August 1, are designed to build connections among neighbors and public safety agencies. Materials on crime prevention and community opportunities will be offered at all events.
X-Sector - at 7315 New Hampshire Avenue, 6-9 p.m. adjacent to Hampshire Towers Apartment, organized in cooperation with the Maryland International Corridor CSAFE Initiative. Carl Malcolm and the Positive Vibration Reggae Band will provide the musical backdrop for refreshments and youth activities.
W-Sector - at 7777 Maple Avenue, 6-8:30 p.m., organized by the Maple Avenue Resident Managers.
V-Sector - in Old Town, Carroll and Laurel Avenue, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. organized by the Old Town Business Association and local civic associations.
Safe neighborhoods through community involvement has been the goal of National Night Out since its inception more than 20 years ago.
“A safer community requires a community-police partnership, and National Night Out is a good opportunity to emphasize that,” said Takoma Park Police Chief Edward Coursey. “This one night’s event reminds us all of the importance of strong communities and each member’s part in making them safer.”
