Each year, the Michael Printz Award is given to the best-written book for young adults -- an audience defined as readers ages 12 -18. In fact, the Printz is sometimes called the Newbery Medal for teens. The Printz winner is chosen in the same way as the winners of the Caldecott Medal and Newbery Medal are chosen : by a group of librarians and other experts who sift through a years' worth of books to find the best ones.
