Have you visited the living butterfly show at Brookside Gardens? This weekend will be your last chance this year. Early Monday morning, each drowsy butterfly will be placed in an individual glassine envelope and taken downtown to the butterfly pavilion at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, to live out the last week or so of life.
The Brookside show includes butterflies from North America, Costa Rica and Asia. Yes, even Blue Morphos. (Have you seen the movie?)
Be very careful where you step as some of the butterflies bask in the sun on the stone floor.
The Takoma Park Horticultural Club and the Silver Spring Garden Club are sponsors this year.
Brookside: adults $5; children 3-12 $4 (children 2 or under free, but no strollers)
Smithsonian: adults $6; children 2-12 $5
