Our 2015 Summer Quest summer reading program kicks off Monday June 8 at 7 p.m. Dave Burbank, the creator of our Summer Quest program, will talk briefly about this year's theme -- The River of Time -- and then everyone can pick their Summer Quest character, get registered, and dive into a great summer of reading! If you can't make it Monday evening, don't worry; you can start Summer Quest any time during the summer. Both kids and adults are encouraged to join in the fun of our unique summer reading program; we are the only library in Maryland to create our own program. We'll end Summer Quest 2015 in mid-September with a party -- stay tuned to the exact date. Thanks to the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library for annually sponsoring Summer Quest!
Summer Quest is essentially a read to move adventure game. Here's how it works: once kids pick a Summer Quest character and give it a name (and color it in, if they want), we'll register them and give them their own game board and a copy of this year's story. Ten reading challenges are embedded into the story, and each time a young reader finishes a challenge, we move their character along our giant Summer Quest game board in the Children's Room. Kids can also keep track of their progress with their own game board. Our Summer Quest reading challenges are all about choice: we just give readers a category (for example, adventure books) and then they choose what to read. Books that are read to kids count, as do audiobooks. There's one rule: books must be checked out of our library to count towards Summer Quest. Come join the fun and sign up for Summer Quest 2015!
