Both kids and adults will enjoy our special Hands Around the Library program on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. In honor of National Friends of the Library Week (Oct. 21-27), author Karen Leggett will talk about her new book, Hands Around the Library: Protecting Egypt’s Treasured Books, which tells the gripping story of how thousands of Egyptian students, library staff and demonstrators saved the great Library of Alexandria from destruction by linking hands around it during the Arab Spring. Illustrated by veteran collage artist Susan Roth, Hands Around the Library is a non-fiction picture book generally aimed at kids ages 5-8, but older children and adults also will enjoy the inspiring, well-told story. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Takoma Park Maryland Library, and copies of the book will be available for purchase, courtesy of Politics & Prose bookstore. No purchase is necessary to attend the program, which is free. Registration is encouraged; to register, please go to: Program Registration - Takoma Park Maryland Library or call us at 301-891-7259.
